At Your Life Your Way, we empower people to live independently, whether at home or in supported accommodation. Since 2010, our trusted team has delivered compassionate, high quality support tailored to each individual’s needs.
Are you caring, compassionate, and looking to make a real difference in someone’s life? Then come and join us in a rewarding career as a Care Support Assistant.
We're looking for a Personal Assistant to support a friendly, intelligent and ambitious young man with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) who is currently at university based in London. He splits his time between his university residence SW7 and his family home in SW19.
Like any student, his days are filled with lectures, assignments, meeting friends, pursuing interests, trying new things and making plans for the future. He is independent, confident and actively involved in directing his own support. Your role will be to provide the practical assistance that helps him continue doing all of those things.
If you're someone who enjoys working alongside people, building positive relationships and making a genuine difference to someone's independence and opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.

Your Responsibilities as a Care Support Assistant
Support varies depending on the day, but may include:
- Assisting with personal care, including dressing, washing, toileting and other daily routines.
- Supporting with mobility and transfers.
- Helping him access university, social activities, appointments and events.
- Assisting with meal preparation and light household tasks.
- Helping set up equipment and ensuring everything is in place for the day ahead.
- Accompanying him on outings and supporting participation in activities he enjoys.
- Providing practical support while always respecting his choices, preferences and independence.
What We’re Looking For
You don't need experience of Spinal Muscular Atrophy specifically, and training will be provided. What matters most is your attitude.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Comfortable with providing personal care.
- Positive, reliable and trustworthy.
- Respectful of the independence and dignity of others.
- A good communicator with a calm and friendly approach.
- Flexible and able to adapt when plans change.
- Happy supporting a young person in a busy university environment.
- Keen to build a professional relationship based on mutual respect.
- Basic IT and record-keeping skills
Why This Role is Different
The person you'll be supporting is not looking for somebody to take over. He is looking for somebody who will work alongside him.
You'll be helping to remove barriers and enable him to live independently. Whether that's getting to a lecture, meeting friends, attending an event, travelling somewhere new or simply getting through a busy day, your support will help make those things possible.
The best Personal Assistants understand that independence doesn't mean doing everything yourself. Sometimes it means having the right support to live the life you choose.
